Snorkeling
Each student has the opportunity to learn basic snorkeling skills taught by the instructors. Students do not have to be great swimmers as the wetsuits are very bouyant, allowing the student to safely explore and discover the marine environment. All snorkeling equipment and training are provided while on board the TOLE MOUR by our well trained instructors. Students will snorkel in their watch groups with their instructor and their chaperone. However all watch groups will snorkel the same site. Snorkeling Equipment All snorkeling gear is provided on the SSV TOLE MOUR. This equipment includes: • A Mask and Snorkel • Force Fins • Body Glove or Henderson Wetsuits • Booties • Hoods
Some Things to Remember • We have some prescription masks. If you wear prescription glasses we can probably accomodate you. • Some groups have found it comfortable to bring neoprene gloves for the trip, but it is not necessary. • If you bring your own mask make sure that you scour the inside of the mask with toothpaste. This will help to keep it from fogging up during the snorkel. • Surfing is a completely different sport than snorkeling. If you bring your surf-suit to snorkel in, we recommend wearing one of our suits over it. Orientation Snorkel For the first snorkel we explain where to get all the equipment you will need, how to don it, and general guidlines. We will also cover some of the fish you may see. Once the entire watch group is suited up and ready to go then it is a short ride in the inflatable to the beach where we will go through our final buddy checks and get you accustomed to using your snorkel, fins and the bouyancy of the wetsuit. Then while staying in your buddy pairs you will follow your Instructor through the ocean observing the marine life from afar and sometimes right in your own hands!
Basic Snorkel The second snorkel allows us some freedom to explore other parts of the island. On this snorkel it might be an option to jump off TOLE MOUR and begin our snorkel with a short swim to a different site, or you could begin your snorkel right from the inflatable itself. This is also a good time to refine your "pike dive" technique so that you can swim right to the bottom of the ocean to find what is hidden there. If you are uncomfortable, not to worry, your lifeguard trained instructor is always nearby as is our inflatable small boat.
